Waitt Institute Welcomes Media and Strategic Communications Manager Emma Head

Emma Head joined the Waitt Institute as a Media & Strategic Communications Manager in October 2022. In this role, she will manage communications for multiple programs and support general communications for the organization.
Emma joins the Institute following a role in government relations at Scripps Institution of Oceanography where she advocated for ocean research funding at the federal, state, and local government levels. She planned visits and briefings for members of congress and other high level government and federal agency staff.
Previously as a public affairs consultant, she coordinated and managed communications for large-scale environmental projects and water utilities. Her work spanned from public transportation, water, and energy storage systems to impactful local crisis communications and more. In this role, she planned and executed over 30 virtual and in-person events such as public hearings, stakeholder briefings, webinars, and workshops.

Originally from Arizona, Emma first felt a connection to the ocean and earth science when visiting an aquarium in San Diego. Since then, she has sought to learn more about the ocean and aligned her career to advance ocean and environmental sustainability programs.
Emma has a B.A. in Sustainability and B.S. in Marketing from San Diego State University. She brings diverse experience in strategic communications, public outreach, advocacy, and project management for environmental programs.
