The Commonwealth Nature Initiative (CNI) was launched at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Antigua and Barbuda aboard the Fortescue Green Pioneer, bringing together governments, philanthropic leaders, and conservation organizations behind a landmark $202.2 million pledge to accelerate progress towards protecting at least 30% of the world's land and oceans by 2030, the 30x30 target.

Minderoo Foundation, the Rob Walton Foundation, the Rainforest Trust, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, the Waitt Foundation, and National Geographic Pristine Seas are the founding supporters of the CNI, with initial commitments supporting the establishment, expansion, and implementation of terrestrial and marine protected areas across Commonwealth countries, including through investment in programs to strengthen Indigenous Peoples’ rights and governance of local communities.
