FIJI PRIME MINISTER SPEAKS FOR FIRST TIME ON INTERNATIONAL STAGE
The Prime Minister of Fiji, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, gave a keynote address about Fiji's commitment to sustainable ocean management in his first speaking engagement since being elected in December.
“We talk about economy, we talk about the environment, but for us, it is survival.”
The Fiji Government recently reaffirmed commitment to protecting their ocean through Blue Prosperity Fiji, a partnership with the Waitt Institute. Led by Prime Minister Rabuka and the Government of Fiji, the Blue Prosperity Fiji program will incorporate public participation, scientific research, and traditional knowledge to sustainably manage 100% of Fiji's ocean space and fully protect at least 30% while supporting ocean industries and fisheries management. Securing and sustainably managing all of Fiji’s ocean and marine resources will ensure prosperity for generations to come.

PANAMA ANNOUNCES PROTECTION OF MORE THAN 54% OF THEIR OCEAN
We congratulate Panama on their announcement at the opening of the Our Ocean Conference to expand protection to more than half of their EEZ! An Executive Decree signed by Panama’s President Laurentino Cortizo and Minister of Environment Milciades Concepción grew the Banco Volcán marine protected area (MPA) in the Panamanian Caribbean to over 36,058 square miles of protection.
Panama was one of the first countries in the world to protect 30% of its territorial waters, and now continues their leadership in protecting even more of their ocean space.
